Itinerary

Enjoy 5 full days and 4 nights at 4 different camps

Day 1 – Arrive at Arusha to Manyara National Park

After breakfast at your hotel in Arusha, depart to Lake Manyara National Park, picnic lunch box will be provided. This park has a wonderful mosaic of different habitats, which attracts a whole host of animals including a high density of elephants. Look out for monkeys, antelopes, zebras and hippos too. There are also lions and some have developed the unusual behavior of climbing trees for their afternoon snooze. However, they have not mastered the art of dragging their kill high into the branches, as the leopard is so adept at doing. Bird life is fascinating at Lake Manyara and numbers are at their peak during the rainy season when seed-eaters, insect-eaters and waterbirds thrive. Pelicans, storks, geese, herons and cormorants share their water world with migrant flamingos, which come and feed on the algae rich water and turn the crystalline edges of the soda lake a vibrant pink. Later in the afternoon, drive to your tented camp.

Day 2 – Manyara to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast drive up the crater highlands, stopping at the rim for a spectacular view of the Ngorongoro Crater. More precisely, a Caldera, formed about three million years ago with the massive explosion of a volcano, once higher than Kilimanjaro. Continuing as far as the eye can see is the vast Serengeti. Serenget meaning “endless plain” in Maa, the Maasai tongue. This 6900 sq. mile (18000 sq. km) park is inhabited by more than 2 million wildebeest. From January to April is the season when wildebeest give birth to their calves and also hundreds of thousands of plains zebras and Thomson’s gazelles. Large predators including lions, cheetahs and hyenas are drawn to the area by this abundance of prey which migrate throughout the park. Many smaller animals like rock hyrax, bat eared foxes, mongoose, jackals, monkeys, baboons and African hares also inhabit the area along with nearly 500 species of birds. After the game drive, head to your tented camp located in the Serengeti.

Day 3 – Full Day Safari in Serengeti National Park

This morning’s African adventure begins with an exploratory game drive through Tanzania’s oldest and most recognized National Park, the Serengeti. This location offers the most expansive game viewing in Tanzania. From predators to prey, great herds of grazing herbivores to tactically cunning packs of carnivores, life on the plains of the Serengeti can best be defined as a complete “circle of life.” Spend a whole day exploring this vast and beautiful park, picnic lunch box will be provided. Lookout for the Impalas, one of Africa’s most beautiful and graceful animals. Previously thought to be part of the gazelle tribe, Impalas have been found to be so different that they are now classified as their own sub-family status. Leopards, cheetah, lions and wild dogs prey on impala. Impala can reach running speeds of approximately 50 to 55 mph (80 to 90 km/h) to escape its predators. Later in the afternoon return to camp.

Day 4 – Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater Tour

After an early morning breakfast, go for one last morning wildlife viewing drive in Serengeti before continuing your drive to the Ngorongoro for an afternoon Ngorongoro crater tour. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the crater offers a unique biosphere which has remained virtually unchanged since the dawn of time. There are very few places in the world where you can find such a large population of wildlife throughout the year. Deep within the crater, enclosed by towering walls, you have a good chance of spotting ‘The Big 5’: Lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard. For the latter two you need a bit of luck as they tend to shy away. Approximately 25,000 animals live on the crater floor. Enjoy a packed lunch in the crater and then head back to your lodge. In the afternoon you can relax and look back on a beautiful day.

Day 5 – Tarangire National Park back to Arusha

The park runs along the line of the Tarangire River and is mainly made up of low-lying hills on the Great Rift Valley floor. Its natural vegetation mainly consists of Acacia woodland and giant African Baobab trees, with huge swamp areas in the south. Both the river and the swamps act like a magnet for wild animals, during Tanzania’s dry season. The Tarangire National Park is reputed to contain some of the largest elephant herds in Africa. This African national park is also home to three rare species of animals – the Greater Kudu, the Fringed-eared Oryx, as well as a few Ashy Starlings. Later in the evening, return to Arusha.
